How do I renew my books?
Loans can be extended on or before the due date, unless the item has been requested by another borrower. A maximum of two extensions per item are permitted. You can extend your loans in person or by contacting the loans desk on 9606 2237. Alternatively, log into the LRC Home page, with your user name (student number- ie. ABC06123456) and password (date of birth). If your password does not work see the LRC staff to get a PIN number to enable you to login. Click on 'Renew my materials' and then select items that you want to renew online.
Exceptions: Items will not be renewed if they are overdue, have fines of $5 or more; item renewal limit has been reached; or items have been requested by other borrowers.

How do I reserve a book?
A reservation service is available for students wishing to place a hold on an item that is on loan to someone. Copy down the title and call number of the item you wish to reserve and hand to staff at the Loans Desk who will be happy to reserve it for you.
Alternatively, you can place a reservation on an item that is out on loan via the LRC catalogue. Search for the item you want to place a hold on and click on the hold button. It will prompt you for your user name (student number- ie: ABC06123456) and password.  
Once a hold has been placed, students will be notified of the item's availability either by email or by phone. Items will be held at the loans desk for three days only.

How do I pay fines?
Library fines do apply to overdue items. Fines are charged at the rate of 30 cents a day for books and $1.00 a day for videos and DVDs. Fines are not charged for weekends and public holidays. Additional fees apply to items that are lost or damaged. In the event of a lost or damaged item, we encourage students to remain in close contact with the LRC staff. Fines/replacement costs need to be paid at the Loans Desk on the ground floor.
A reminder that fines of $5 or more will affect borrowing & network privileges and results will be withheld.

How do I access the Reserve Room?
Books, CD-ROMs , disks and notes in high demand are placed in the Reserve Room by teachers.
Students can search for Reserve Room items via the LRC Catalogue or use the index located at the Loans Desk.
Most Reserve Room items can only be used within the ground floor of the LRC. ONLY TWO Reserve Room items can be borrowed with a valid student card at any one time.

How do I return my items?
All resources need to be returned to the designated returns chutes to avoid library fines. Chutes are located inside the front entrance of the LRC and on the west face of Building C, opposite the Bistro.

How do I access the myWireless network?
Watch the Power Point Slide Presentation or print the instructions.
If you have any questions bring your laptop to the staff at the LRC loans desk on the ground floor and they will assist you with setting up your laptop to access the wireless network. 

How do I print my work in colour?
Colour Printing is available from all computers.  A reminder - you need to have money on your student cards before you can print. Check paper size and "print preview" your document before you send it to the printer.
To print in colour go to "File" menu and select the "print" option. From the drop down box, change the printer from the default shown to the colour printer. Then click on print. Go to the computer (print server) connected to the colour printer and swipe your card.  Select your job from the queue and click print. Log off to complete the process.
As colour printouts are more detailed they may take a few minutes to print. If you have multiple pages or pictures/images in your documents, it is suggested you print your job in batches of two pages at a time.

How do I print my work in black & white?
There are 5 black and white (B&W) printers over both floors. All LRC computers are configured to print to a specific printer.
Printing in B&W is very easy. Once your document is ready to print - click on the printer icon in the taskbar. Then go to the computer (print server) connected to the printer you are printing to. Swipe your student card to activate the print server, select your job from the queue and click print. Log off to complete the process.
A reminder - you need to have money on your student cards before you can print. Check paper size and print preview your document before you send it to the printer.
Cost: A4 = 13 cents, A3 = 26 cents

How do I save my work?
You are allocated 50Mb of space on the student network – what does this mean? This means that you can save your work on the network (F:\) and then log onto any computer and still have access to your files. It is a safe way of saving your work, since it will be backed up by the Institute, on a daily basis.
Another alternative is to use a USB “Flash Drive”. These portable drives are very useful and they can be purchased at the LRC Bookshop and most computer stores.

How do login to the computer network?
To be able to access the network you need to have a valid student ID card. Your login name is your student number as printed on your student card and your password is your date of birth ddmmyyy

How do I use the photocopiers?
There are 3 black & white photocopiers over the 2 floors and a colour photocopier on the ground floor. A valid student card is necessary to activate the machines.
All photocopiers allow double sided copying; enlarging/reducing and allow you to photocopy on transparencies.

How do I use the scanner?
The scanner is located on the second floor. You need to login to the computer that it is attached to the scanner. Then go to the start menu to access the software. Detailed instructions are located near the scanner.

How do I access the Archive Collection?
All Archive items can be searched via the LRC catalogue. To view the archive item, you need to fill out an Archive Request Form, which is available at the Loans Desk, then hand the form to the LRC staff. We will process your request within 2 hours.
Most items will be available to be viewed and/or photocopied. (Some items may be too fragile to touch or photocopy).
